Explore the needs of individuals with complex communication difficulties who may benefit from Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Critically evaluate the range of AAC resources and strategies available, and explore assessment and implementation of AAC.

AAC Assessment Tools for Children (D) 8th Feb 22

Developing Level (Teacher-supported online study)

Develop your knowledge and skills to identify appropriate AAC solutions. This course explores the fundamental principles of AAC assessment and is suitable for people working with children who may benefit from aided language systems.

Makaton Level 1 (I) 28th Feb, 7th Mar, 21st Mar, 28th Mar 2022

Introductory Level  (Teacher supported online study)

Makaton Level 1 training provides a practical introduction to the Makaton Language Programme. Sessions will include hints and tips for effective signing and symbol use and how to start using Makaton in everyday situations at home or work. You will learn the signs and symbols from Stages 1 and 2 of the core vocabulary and half of the additional vocabulary.

Implementing the Pragmatics Profile for People who use AAC (D) 9th, 30th March 2022

Developing Level (Teacher-supported online study)

This course is in two sessions: 

Part 1 - Learn about the development of the Pragmatics Profile for people who use AAC and how to administer it;
Part 2 - Discover how to use the profile to identify appropriate vocabulary for AAC and create communication targets to support personal development.

This two day introductory workshop is hosted and delivered at Ace Centre in Oldham. We are delighted to welcome Gayle Porter to Ace Centre to deliver the course in collaboration with Suzanne Martin.

The course aims to discuss the teaching and learning strategies for implementing PODD communication systems and is taught as a face to face course.
